Last week we had Arts Day.  Everyone went to 4 different workshops.  The kinders said it was the best day ever and at least one person has asked everyday whether today would be another Arts Day.

Our New Worm Bin

This week we had a visit from Mr. Robie who helped our kinders set up a worm bin.  This wonderful project came about when one of our students noticed we were throwing a lot of food into the trash after snack and thought it would be a good idea to start composting.  Mr. Hall, one of our school's avid gardeners, stepped in and arranged for Mr. Robie's visit.

First we had to get some worms for our bin.

Then we tore strips of newspaper to put in the bin.

We added some water to get the newspaper damp.

Mr. Robie layered the bin with newspapers and worms.

We saved our snack scraps and put them in the bin on Friday.  Mrs. Belanger's friends will have the bin for the next week.

Writing

Kids were feeling very successful writing the sounds they hear in words throughout our last writing unit: Observing and Writing Like A Scientist. We worked on making our sketches look like the object we were observing.

One day Mrs. Wheeler took us outside to look closely at a section of our woods.  We found lots of really cool things to look at!

We are loving Monday afternoons spent playing games with our 5th grade buddies!
